Bob Sowden | Redrow CSR

Bob Sowden

Construction Director

"I've worked in construction since I left school, gaining qualifications at the same time as working on site. I joined Redrow in 1998 as contracts manager, attracted by the company’s excellent reputation within the industry, and I was promoted to my current role in 2002". ...Learn more about Bob Sowden

As construction director, I am responsible for managing the construction team to build a quality product professionally, efficiently and safely. Agreed timescales and budgets must be met while delivering a home that meets the high standards of both the company and the customer.

Receiving good customer feedback is one of the highlights of my working life. It gives me tremendous job satisfaction to deliver a quality product to someone who will probably never make a larger purchase in their lives.

Another highlight has been my involvement in developing our in-house assistant site manager development programme, through which each employee can gain an NVQ level three qualification. The aim of the programme is to give potential new site managers greater confidence in their day-to-day roles by broadening their understanding of the industry. Each site manager has their own style, but the attitude on site towards health and safety or delivering high quality results is the product of the site manager’s personal drive and leadership qualities."... hide

Site Manager

"A typical day is organising the site workforce, ensuring progressive works are all planned and the actual on site works are being done in a safe and controlled manner. Obviously keeping an eye on the quality as well. Liaising with the colleagues in sales regarding plot walks, demo's or possibly handovers and the supply chain, ordering materials, pre-planning and such forth". ...Learn more about Gareth Griffiths

What I like about my role is the shared human endeavour creating a quality product, having a positive influence on the built environment and providing homes for people.

Redrow Homes gave me the opportunity to grow into an effective site manager, they have got a great reputation well deserved in the construction industry, there's a real emphasis on quality control and customer care.

What drew me to Redrow Homes is the general reputation which is very strong in South Wales and the UK generally. Their focus on quality control and the end product, their fair treatment of the whole supply chain and the Steve Morgan story is a very inspirational story, that was an issue as well.... hide

Iain Scott-Williams | Redrow CSR

Iain Scott-Williams

Site Manager

"House building is an industry which fascinates me. It's an industry that puts you in direct contact with your customer, presenting you with an opportunity to produce a home for them with the challenge of meeting and exceeding their expectations, through the quality of product that you build and the levels of service you offer"....Learn more about Iain Scott-Williams

House building, like many types of construction is an industry which presents new challenges and goals on a day to day basis. Every day is different, you never know quite what to expect.

I have been involved with the Debut range since I joined Redrow over two years ago. I worked in Redrow's product development department within a team responsible for developing the Debut concept through to a finished product. The role involved researching new materials and working with manufacturers to develop products that were suitable for use within the Debut range and preparing each new Debut site for assessment under EcoHomes criteria. Working on a project like Debut has taught me the importance of continually re-evaluating your product range to ensure it is versatile enough to meet changing market conditions and satisfy evolving customer expectations. It is reassuring that it is possible to raise the benchmark and successfully launch a new concept into an industry which is renowned for being slow to change.

It is very satisfying to visit one of Redrow's Debut sites and see an aspect that I helped to develop, now being successfully used by our customers. I have recently transferred from Redrow's Graduate scheme where I worked in product development to site management. This is giving me the opportunity to focus on the practical aspect of house building and embrace new personal challenges like managing the trades on site to successfully build and finish houses to the high standard expected. My future ambitions include project managing one of Redrow's flagship developments or a multimillion pound 'in the city' development. Projects like 'Altolusso' in Cardiff or 'Vie' in Manchester excite me, imagine the sense of achievement being able to stand back knowing you've been involved in managing the project."... hide

"I was still at University and unsure as to what I wanted to do. Then I received an email from one of my lecturers letting me know about a place on the graduate scheme at Redrow. I thought it sounded good and applied. Coming in for my first interview I was immediately impressed with the company and liked the feel of the Head Office. I was made to feel comfortable straight away, and after my second interview went smoothly I started work 2 weeks early.

I found the graduate scheme a good learning curve and meeting the others on the scheme was helpful - we were all in the same boat so had something in common straight away! I like to set myself targets, and at Redrow I've been able to achieve them. If you work hard you are definitely rewarded and appreciated. Sometimes it gets a bit pressured, but there's lots of support and I find the continuous appraisal process very reassuring, as you can see just how much you've come on. I've been here 6 years now and was recently promoted into my new position as Engineering Manager - which has made me feel very confident!"... hide
