Quality in Design
Redrow’s desire to meet the demands of our customers and at the same time incorporate modern energy saving construction standards is typified by our recently launched New Heritage Collection.
“Today’s rigorous building standards and greater awareness of sustainability issues, also means brand new homes are much more efficient than the character properties of yester-year, which can mean drastically reduced running costs” - Steve Morgan, Chairman of Redrow Homes.
The traditional exteriors of The New Heritage Collection hide a contemporary interior specification, featuring convivial and flexible open plan living spaces with modern appliances, designed to be compliant with the latest energy efficient and water conservation regulatory requirements in England & Wales.
By integrating these homes into sensitively considered and well landscaped layouts, we can create the sense of community and desirability that ensures long-term sustainability and the lifestyle which our customers tell us they want.
Our efforts in all aspects of our business were recognised in the What house? Awards 2010, where Redrow collected Silver in the Best Large Housebuilder section which judges design, quality, value for money, marketing, after sales service, and customer care.
Our development at Willow Gardens, Hailsham exemplifies the attention paid to landscaping design which enhances bio diversity. When completed the scheme will include 3.7 acres of landscaped area, including 1.7 acres set aside for allotments. The proposals include translocation of reptiles threatened by the development; planting of approximately 370 trees; 715 hedging plants; and around 14,500 shrubs and other plants.
Consideration of energy conservation is not limited to our products. A carbon audit , funded by the Carbon Trust was recently undertaken at our Head Office, covering energy management and reporting systems, energy performance and energy supply. Some suggestions arising from this report have been taken up as part of current refurbishment works, including the installation of timed light switch sensors throughout the building.
Suppliers’ ability to deliver a proportion of “Green Electricity” is also considered when choosing suppliers of electricity to all our offices throughout the Group .
On 2 December 2009, the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) announced that gas and electricity smart meters would be rolled out by energy suppliers to every home in Britain by the end of 2020 through a central smart metering implementation programme under the auspices of DECC and Ofgem.
Smart meters will empower customers to make choices on how much energy they use. Suppliers will install two-way communication systems that display accurate real-time information on energy use in the home to the consumer and back to the energy supplier thus estimated bills will no longer be necessary.
In addition, smart meters enable:
We recognise these benefits for our customers and in partneship with Eon we are in the process of trialing Eon’s dual fuel SMART meters at our site in Great Park Rubery.
